The spell check does not work with IMs

Dear Carole:

I too am experiencing the problem of the spell check not working with IMs. It works fine as always with chatrooms, but not with IM's. I have disabled the virus programs as well as anything else I could think of and which you had suggested to another user, all to no avail.

I too have tried it on another computer with the same results. The spell check is not working with IM's. This problem began two days ago.

Since you say this only started happening recently, this may be a temporary glitch with AOL, as I'm not having any problem using the spell checker on my system -- either when pressing the enter key or clicking the "Send" button on the IM window.

You may want to post your BPS sytem information, so we can take a look and see whether something else might be causing this problem on your system:

1. Click the Windows "Start" button.

2. Click your mouse on "All Programs" to get a list of all installed programs on your system.

3. Click your mouse on the "BPS SoftWare" program group.

4. Click on "BPS System Info" and wait for the window to load completely.

5. Once fully loaded, click the "Copy to Clipboard" button on the "BPS System Info" window (nothing will happen visibly -- please do not copy anything else to the Windows Clipboard until finished.)

6. Click the "Reply" button in this thread, right click in the message body, and then select "Paste" from the menu. This will paste your complete system info in your post.

7. Click the "Post Message" button.

I am unfamiliar with this system of requesting help, so this might not be the way to do it. I too have experienced the failure of the Auto Spell Check feature to work (in the IM environment) for the last couple of days.

I attempted to follow the instrucion to load the clipboard with the contents of my system, but I did not have an entry "BPS System Info" under the BPS Software Menu items. I had only:
BPS Software on the Web; Bug Report; Power Tools 12; Power Tools Help; Read Me.

The spell check seemed to work -- exactly once. Then was inoperable in IM sessions. It remains that way today.

Unfortunately, we cannot fix something that we can't duplicate. The spell checker works fine for all of us, BPS staff -- and only 3 customers (including you) have reported having this problem so far. Apparently, this problem is due to temporary and localized changes/glitches with AOL that do not occur for everyone.

We'll keep an eye on it but, unless this becomes a permanent and wide-spread problem, there's little chance we will be able to do anything about it.

You should upgrade AOL to the latest. You're using the Second Edition build, the Security Edition build it is the newest. Keyword: UPGRADE

After you download/install AOL, launch PowerTools. This will ensure PowerTools hooks onto the correct version of AOL.
NOTE: You should receive an update or two after you sign offline to receive the latest updates from AOL.
