Just noticed yesterday that Spell Check is not functioning on either of my computers for IMs. Also something else, the macro send command doesn't work now.
Additionally, why did AOL drop BPS as a keyword? How is this going to effect any future changes, improvements or upgrades?

Could you post a BPS system information for the other computer(s) as well? This will allow me to check whether there's a common reason why PT might not be functioning properly.

Also, I see in the system information you posted that you're using PC-Cillin. Make sure that your antivirus (any antivirus and antispyware programs on your systems) are set to allow or ignore PowerTools. Many times, those programs block certain functions of PT one way or another.

AOL didn't really "drop" keyword BPS -- at least not purposefully. They made some changes that affected the way keywords work, and which unfortunately made our kewyord no longer functional. Our AOL forum is still accessible by going directly to this link:

This will however not affect any future BPS developments, as we always post all updates to our web site as well, at www.bpssoft.com

Did you set PC-Cillin to allow or ignore PowerTools on your first computer, as I suggested in my first post?

I see that you're using McAfee Antivirus on the second computer. This program is known to cause problems with PowerTools. You will need to set McAfee to allow PowerTools to run, or to always ignore PowerTools.

If you use any other antivirus or antispyware programs on either computer, make sure to do the same with them.

Dear Carole:
I too am having the problem of the spell check not working with IMs. The spell check works fine in chatrooms but not in the IMs. I have disabled AOL's spyware but to no avail. I have tried it on another computer to no avail. I have re-installed the spell check program, to no avail. I have disabled all virus and firewall programs, to no avail.

I've looked at my virus programs and am unable to figure out how to tell them to allow PT as you suggest.
However, buth computers, each running a different anti-virus began doing this at the same time. The PC-cillian I only installed about a week ago and the spell check only stopped working a couple of days ago.

When you are going to send and IM and trying to use the spell check feature when you right click is spell check highlighted. (Does is say spell check in black or light grey?)

McAfee definitely has an option to allow or ignore certain programs -- look in the McAfee Online Help File or other documentation. I don't know about PC-Cillin, but most antivirus have such an option, so I would think this one does too.

Yes, this is odd. The fact it began at the same time on both your computers (and another user reported the same problem, also starting a couple of days ago) makes me think this may be caused by a glitch or change with AOL. If this is the case, we'll have to wait a bit to see whether this is temporary and wide-spread, as I haven't been able to reproduce this problem on my own system (my spell checker works fine in IMs, regardless of how I send the IM.)

The other PT user mentioned that the spell checker was not working only when they pressed the Enter key to send the IM, but worked fine when clicking the "Send" button. Is it the same for you?

Spell Check works if I use the <SEND> button in IM, but not if <ENTER> is used. Macros send commands also do not work for IM. the /<alias>.

Yes, PT is used for IMs and is the enhance window.

2. Is your IM window set to float? (Is the icon in the upper right hand corner of the PowerIM window a pencil with paper or a PowerTools red drill?)

IM window isn't set to float. And I had not noticed the icon before, but it is't the usual PT Icon, but it does seem to be a paper and pencil icon.

I am using the same builds of AOL/PowerTools and no matter how I try to "break" the spell checker it always works!

Could you take a picture of your PowerIM window and send it to my AOL email: BPS Rocky

To create a screen shot:
1. Make sure you can SEE what want to capture on your screen.
2. Press the PRINT SCRN key (next to the F12 key).
3. Open an email form, put your cursor in the body, RIGHT click and click PASTE.
4. When asked if you want to RESIZE, say NO.

I no longer check these boards.
