Hi.
I recently got a new computer, and moved my old HD (which has PTs 12) into it as a second HD. When I went into that HD and tried to start PTs it wouldn't load at all. I tried the compatibility wizard and that didn't work. As a matter of fact, it didn't even have an option for Windows XP.
Am I going to have to download another copy of PTs? If so, am I going to be expected to pay for it again?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Have you already downloaded and installed PowerTools 12 onto your new computer? You will need to do this in order to install required components onto the new computer.
If you're using the SAME AOL Account you registered PowerTools 12 with then there is no additional registration necessary. Your previous registration number should work.

Have you already downloaded and installed PowerTools 12 onto your new computer? You will need to do this in order to install required components onto the new computer. I have the program on the new computer, it's on the HD I moved over from my old one. I can easily reinstall it though. If you're using the SAME AOL Account you registered PowerTools 12 with then there is no additional registration necessary. Your previous registration number should work. I have the same account and master SN, but I think I used a different SN (an AOL Host SN), which I no longer have. Does that matter?

Once you reinstall PowerTools if you have problems still, please post the BPS System Information Report to these boards.
Please follow these directions to post the BPS System Information Report:
1. Click on START, point to (All) Programs > BPS Software > BPS System Info.
2. Once the fields fill with text, click on the "Copy to Clipboard" button.
3. In your reply message board post, simply right-click and select "Paste"
------
Registration numbers are based off the Master SN, if you haven't changed AOL Accounts your previous number should still work.

Just one last question before I go and re-install.
Do I download the latest version and install from there, or do I pull the installation file from my D: drive, and install the program into my C: Drive?

If you have only moved your second hard disk from the old computer to the new one, without actually installing PowerTools on the new computer, this copy of PowerTools will be missing necessary system files (placed in the Windows\System directory by the installation process) and registry entries -- which explains why this copy of PT wouldn't function properly.
You need to actually install PowerTools on the new computer. If you don't have any personal information/settings that you want to keep from the PowerTools copy on your D: drive, you can simply delete it, and then reinstall PowerTools on either drive. You can also install the program over the current copy, into the same directory where PT is currently on your D: drive. This will install the missing necessary components and Registry entries on the new computer.

Jay, do you have Zone Alarm installed on your computer? If so, that can make PT appear to not load (it is loading, but extremely slowly). If you have Zone Alarm on your computer, be sure to see the post about this toward the bottom of the forum about how to fix this problem.

Jay, do you have Zone Alarm installed on your computer? If so, that can make PT appear to not load (it is loading, but extremely slowly). If you have Zone Alarm on your computer, be sure to see the post about this toward the bottom of the forum about how to fix this problem. Some versions of Zone Alarm (those that come with the spyware component) falsely mark components of our software as spyware. Zone Alarm blocks access to these components, which obviously render our spyware-free programs inoperable. This post explains how to fix and prevent this issue from happening: Conflict with Zone Alarm.

I'd been using PT just fine (great product by the way, but now suddenly it's dropped my registration number and is telling me I'm in the evaluation period. I did purchase the software. I'm attempting a download of the latest version but I have my doubts it'll fix it if it's not showing me registered.

You definately need to update to the latest version of PowerTools. Once you do this, if you continue to have problems, please post an updated System Information Report. As far as your registration issue is concerned... PowerTools should have only prompted you for the trial version if you've recently changed your AOL account, reinstalled Windows, or replaced the Hard Drive. Have you recently done any of those? You can obtain your current PowerTools registration number from our online database. Try typing the registration number in again to see if the product registers. I don't have Zone Alarm, so that shouldn't be an issue.
Thanks for the info, I am going to DL and install the latest version and will let you know how it works out.

Well, I went and installed the latest version of PT 12, but the problem I was worried about has creeped up. It keeps asking me for a Registration number, which I can't find since its been so long ago since I used it.
Any ideas?

Well, I went and installed the latest version of PT 12, but the problem I was worried about has creeped up. It keeps asking me for a Registration number, which I can't find since its been so long ago since I used it. The registration number is saved in the Windows Registry, so it is normal the program is asking for your registration number on the new computer, since it's actually a new installation. Please click here for information on how to find your existing registration number.
