I have been trying to double click my buddy names on my buddy list to send them IMz. I am using AOL's buddy nicknames. When I click it and begin to send the IM, I get a message that the buddy is not currently signed on. With PT 9-11 I was able to do this. Any suggestions?
Thanks, Rachel
I have:
PT 12.0.38 (I tried accessing the system utilities through the help menu but it gave an error message saying that it coulnt execute the request).
AOL America Online 9.0 Security Edition SE for Windows 98, Windows Millennium, Windows 2000 and Windows XP
Revision 4184.5354

You cannot use the friendly names option with PowerTools. PowerTools cannot access the AOL Address Book because it is encrypted now -- that's where the data for the friendly names is stored. Disable at Keyword: FILTERING AND VIEWING SETTINGS
As a work around, I just use the PowerTools Address Book and use the Info PowerTab on the Buddy List to show and store "nicknames".
This works better for me, because it also shows me the member nicknames instead of their screen name if the user is in the chatroom as well as the tab displays their nickname when you chat with them in IMs. It will appear as "ScreenName - Nickname".

Thanks Rocky! I will try that. Will there come a day when PT will be able to do that again with aol's address book? I really liked the older version of PT's buddy list before the AOL change. We've tried to break the encryption of the AOL Address Book, but have been unsuccessful. Unless AOL opens the Address Book up for us, I don't think we'll be able to access that data.
