Trouble with Im Phrases (Fav,1,2,3,4)

I am having alot of trouble with this power im. Everytime I go to instant message someone the last thing I said from the previous im pops up as a Fav#1. Is there anyway I can stop phrases from being used in im's ? someone please help. Using Pt 12 btw.

Open the Send IM Window (CTRL+i)
Click on the "NEW" button, then send a message.
The next time you open this window, NEW will be selected.

The frequent Fav buttons allow you easy access to the greetings you might normally use.
