 Is there no way to delete those irritating fav's on in the IM Screen or shut that feature off completely? I have read every subject in the help section that would remotely tell me how and still can't figure it out! Even if I use back space and retype something different, it STILL sends them to a room as though I had sent a link!

I'm confused by your posting. At the beginning you mention favs in instant messages, then end with sending links to the chat room.
Favorite Buttons in IMs are used to send frequently used phrases to initiate a new IM conversation. Click on the "New" (just left of Fav1) button/tab in order to send a new message.
In the chat room the Favs box will allow you to drag and drop a link into the chat room for the link to work. This isn't meant for regular typing -- the box to the left of this window is what typing a regular message is for.
