I am having a problem with PowerTools 12.37 When I open an IM conversation, or somebody IM's me, there is a long hesitation and then I get an error message the PowerTools has generated an error and must shut down, and it apologizes for the inconvenience.
I have tried everything, including reloading PowerTools.

The only way to get that to stop is to restart Windows (XP) Search your computer for the BPSEditor.txt file, if it is found, delete that file. Here are necessary directions for searching in Windows XP: 1. Click on START > on the right-side pane Select SEARCH 2. Search for BPSEditor.txt (you can copy and paste this) 3. Change the "Look In:" to search your C:\ drive 4. Click on "Search Now" button. 5. In the results window, right-click on this file, select "Delete".

PowerTools will only generate an error message like that for one of two reasons: 1. There are too many programs loading with Windows and one is conflicting with the operation of PowerTools. 2. There are too many files in the Windows TEMP folder. What happens when you try to open the BPS System Information Utility? Try reinstalling PowerTools to see if that will help you use the Utility.

You actually do have a huge number of programs that are running:
Running Programs (76 total):
A large number of those should be disabled from loading with Windows.
Disable Unnecessary Programs
1. Click on START 2. Click on RUN 3. Type in MSCONFiG and hit Enter 4. Click over to the Startup tab 5. Remove the checkmarks next to the following items, when finished, hit Apply > OK and restart your computer.
SunJavaUpdateSched UpdateManager ATIPTA LogitechVideoRepair LogitechVideoTray NeroFilterCheck ReminderApp HostManager AOLDialer AOL Spyware Protection iTunesHelper QuickTime Task SpySweeper nmapp
Having spyware programs run constantly is completely unnecessary and very resource intensive. As long as you practice safe web browsing and install Spyware free programs you'll be fine running a scan just once a week.
