Like everyone, I am unable to launch my PowerTools 12 with AOL 9.0VR, but I desperately need to access my custom editor. You see, I am a writer and I have been keeping all of my work since the 90s in there. Is there any way for me to open up my custom editor without having to launch online? I need to move my work into another offline program (microsoft word, most likely).
My publisher is losing patience with me, and I'm at a loss as what to do. My final edit on my second book is due by the middle of January.
I read Jeromy's posting regarding AOL blocking email, so I will check back here regularly to see if someone responds.
Thank you for your help/guidance... Sincerely, JanetAmundsen@aol.com
PS: I can be reached through foxjm@usa.redcross.org, should someone need to email me with a response.

Janet, If you have a decent amount of memory (1gig minimum) then you can follow the directions outline within this post to load MS Virtual PC on your computer and install Windows XP -- then you can load Windows XP > install AOL > PowerTools 12 and use your files like you normally would. The only other suggestion would be to see if you can find a friend that would open the Custom Editor for you and copy it's contents manually to an email or other text file.

Jeromy, Your kindness to respond is invaluable! I took your instructions and copied them all into an email to myself. I will find someone with enough knowledge about computer programing to assist me with your instructions. I'm a writer, yes. But, I can't even tell you how much memory I have or where to find that information. LOL Thank you very much for offering me some hope! I don't know why the company closed its doors, but I will be praying that someone with the money, and the desire, offers to buy the rights to Powertools so that some day all of us may, once again, enjoy its priceless benefits! A very distraught (yet hopeful) customer! JanetAmundsen@aol.com

Jeromy,
This will probably end up being a really stupid question, but one doesn't know until they ask, right?
Instead of loading virtual PC and redownloading an older version of aol, is it possible to do a system restore to a date prior to the update of AOL 9.0VR and then using the previous version of AOL 9.0optimized?
I told you I was computer illiterate, so feel free to laugh before you reply! ;D
Thanks again for all the help you are providing us wandering souls!
Best wishes, JanetAmundsen@aol.com

Janet,
If you're using a computer that has Windows Vista installed, you'll always be forced to use AOL 9.0 VR which is incompatible with PowerTools. This also means you cannot use AOL 9.0 optimized.
Are you using Vista?

Janet, You can redownload AOL Optimized from here: www.oldversion.com/program.php?n=aolI'd try that first. AOL could eventually force everyone to download AOL 9 Vista Ready, but hopefully installing the AOL 9 Optimized from that link will help with your problem.
