i have gone to preference and checked and unchecked the display smiles. i went to chat preference and checked and unchecked.. i cant see smiles in the room and if i do one it looks like this [ ].

Getting smilies to work in PowerChat is very simple.
You need to DISABLE AOL and ENABLE PowerTools smilies.
Disable AOL:
Go to Keyword: SETTINGS > Chat Preferences
*Uncheck* Display Smilies as Art
Click on SAVE.
Enable PowerTools:
Enter a chat room, click on the smiley icon at the bottom of your chat window.
Click on: "Display Smilies as Art" select "Enable Smilies in PowerChat View".

i went in a chat room and clicked a smile..nothing now i get a -. i went to preference and clicked on chat and unclicked display smiles..STILL NOTHING...

Click on the Red PowerTools drill icon on your toolbar > Select
Customize PowerTools > PowerChat Preferences.
Click over to the MISC tab, make certain
"Display Smilies as art" is checked.

Send a screen shot to me of your AOL preference window:
Keyword: SETTINGS
> Chat Preferences
> Follow these directions:
To create a screen shot:
1. Make sure you can SEE what want to capture on your screen.
2. Press the PRINT SCRN key (next to the F12 key).
3. Open an email form, put your cursor in the body, RIGHT click and click PASTE.
4. When asked if you want to RESIZE, say NO.
