This was posted almost 24 hrs ago?? Is there a telephone number I can call?? No, there is no phone number for tech support, sorry. All support is done through this forum by volunteers. When you installed PT 12 (as long as you still had PT 10 installed on your hard disk,) the installation program should have detected your old version and asked if you wanted to import your PT 10 data into the new version. If you missed this step during the installation process, or no longer had PT 10 installed at the time, you can still individually import the data you want to keep. By default, you will find this data in your C:\Program Files\BPS SoftWare\PowerTools 10 folder. Here are some files and folders you may want to transfer: - Files with an .MDB and .LDB extension (for the PT Address Book and Custom Phrase Editor data.) - Power Places sub-folder (Power Places.) - Actions sub-folder (Action Files.) - Chatroom Logs sub-folder. - Instant Message Logs sub-folder.

I don't think you are understanding me? My old hard drive locked up because of a magnet, however we are able to read the old hard drive from my new hard drive, BUT power tools 10x can't be opened up for me to read any information about transfers.
Is there anyway you can send me the information which tells me how to transfer from 10x to 12x? I've been on chemo and my cognitiveness is very slow and I need to print them out and read them to begin the process.
Sorry for the time I'm taking, but if this can't be done then I will just have to ask for a refund. I'm a retired nurse and have literally thousands of library information that I use for on line patients on also their email addresses. This information is very important for patients. The only reason I have stayed on AOL is because of my Pt's, but if I am not able to retrieve that old information then there is no reason to remain on AOL. I was a community leader for over 5 years and unfortunately got hooked on my Pt's for storing information. I'm hoping you can help me but if you can't then please let me know, so I can request my refund.
Thanking you in advance for your attention in this matter. BTW, is BPSCo SOS (Joni) still with BPS? She was such a dear and one of the reasons I kept AOL and stayed as a volunteer. If she is, send her my best wishes......she had the patience of Jobe....LOL

There's no need to open PT 10 to do what I explained above. You just need to copy the files and folders mentioned above from one location on your old hard disk (where PT 10 is installed) to another location on your new hard disk (where PT 12 is installed) -- this is done using Windows Explorer. Unfortunately, because our programs are shareware, we cannot offer refunds. But, like I said, it's just a question of copying the files from one hard disk to the other with Windows Explorer. No, she's not.

I don't have windows explorer, as I have XP-PRO and you work from your hard drives, nothing like the old window systems....
However, I did go to PT10 and separately copied each folder you suggested by, right click copy then went to Pt12 and right clicked pasted to the proper folders. Then I restarted my computer....when I opened up PT12 on AOL 9.0 nothing had transfered??? My BPS exp files wouldn't even copy from PT10 to PT12??

I don't have windows explorer, as I have XP-PRO and you work from your hard drives, nothing like the old window systems.... Windows Explorer is a basic file management program included with all versions of Windows XP (and even with older versions of Windows, although it wasn't always called that) It's used to copy, move, delete, rename files on the hard disk. That's what I meant. The program you used to do this is called Windows Explorer Have you verified that the files you copied had actually been copied to the PT 12 folder? If they are indeed there, you will still need to open them in PT 12. Note that the Editor files for PT 10 normally have the file extensions I mentioned in my first post (.MDB and .LDB). "Exp files" are individual phrase groups that were exported, usually for the purpose of sharing them with others, or importing them into an existing Editor database. If you only have exp files, and no MDB and LDB files, proceed as follows: 1. Open the "Utility" menu in the PT 12 Editor. 2. Move your mouse over "Old Style Exp Files". 3. Select "Import Exp File" from the sub-menu. 4. Select the desired exp file and click the "Open" button. If you do find your Editor's original MDB and LDB files, copy them to the PT 12 folder, and then simply open the MDB file from the Custom Editor's "File" menu. If you also need help opening your old Address Book file, please let me know (Address Book files should also have MDB and LDB extensions.)

*****I do not have files in PT 10x listed as .MDB or .LDB....it is listed as Custom1 and Custom 2
If you also need help opening your old Address Book file, please let me know (Address Book files should also have MDB and LDB extensions.)
*****It says address book 1.....there is no MDB or LDB extensions ANYWHERE on either one?
*****I'm sorry to keep bothering you, but this frustration is getting to me....I'm on chemo and I'm trying......I just don't know what to do now.
BTW......I was able to IMPORT the .exp files, once you instructed me how to do it.

*****I do not have files in PT 10x listed as .MDB or .LDB....it is listed as Custom1 and Custom 2 *****It says address book 1.....there is no MDB or LDB extensions ANYWHERE on either one? If you can't see file extensions, the reason is because Windows Explorer is set to hide them by default on your computer. Here's how to make extensions visible: 1. Open Windows Explorer. 2. Click the "Tools" menu in Windows Explorer, and then click on "Folder Options" in the menu. 3. In the Folder Options window, click the "View" tab. 4. Look in the list of options and UNCHECK the box that says "Hide extensions for known file types". 5. Click the "Apply to All Folders" button. Now you should be able to see file extensions in Windows Explorer (extensions are the 3 characters following the dot in file names.) Glad to know that If you also want to transfer your old Address book data, copy the .MDB and .LDB files for the Address Book to the PT 12 folder (same as you did with the exp files.) Then you will just need to open the Address Book file in PT 12 like this: 1. Launch PT 12 and open the Address Book. 2. Click the Address Book's "Book" menu, and then click on "Open". 3. Select your Address Book file and click the "Open" button. Please let me know how that worked.

I did the above step for address book and only got addy's up to 2003....when I found another folder and sent it to PT12, then went and found it to open it...when I doubled click it said "Could not open selected data base" ?If you were previously using several Address Book databases, or had backups of your main database file, it's possible you didn't copy and/or open the one you wanted, which would explain the incomplete one. As for the error message when trying to open the other one, you may have tried to open a Custom Phrase database instead of Address Book database (they both have the same file extension.) It's also possible your Address Book file got corrupted. No, the address book doesn't need to be imported like exp files. You just need to open the desired Address Book database file from the "Book" menu. Were you having problems with your original PT 12 installation? Also, you say it "wouldn't reinstall" -- what happened exactly when you tried to reinstall? Did you get any error message? Did you double-click on the file you downloaded? What happens exactly when you double-click on the file?

*******yes it sometimes wouldn't open. Plus I didn't have the "actbar2.ocx" file so I tried to reinstall....it wouldn't budge, so that is when I re-downloaded it and then when I went in Program files and double clicked to re-install, nothing happened.

******Yes I double clicked and nothing happened...
*************How do I alphabatize "alias" in the Custom Editor?

Did you make sure to close PowerTools 12 completely before trying to reinstall it? You should also close any other open programs before attempting to install (including any antivirus/antispyware programs.) You may also want to reboot your system first. Just click on the "Alias" column's title in the Editor.

*******Yes I closed ALL programs and tried to reinstall from my C drive..... Some programs, such as antivirus and antispyware, may not appear to be open, even though they are. If you use any such programs, look in the Windows System Tray (bottom right in the Windows toolbar.) Such programs can prevent PowerTools from installing and/or running properly. If it launches AOL and PT when you double-click it, it means you are not double-clicking on the correct file. You are double-clicking on the PT file that's already been installed (Ptools12.exe) instead of the setup file that you downloaded (bpspt120.exe).
