I started getting the disappearing cursor problem about a month ago. I've been using the same version of AOL 9.0 for over a year and the latest version of PT 12 since it came out. Here's my system info:

The ones labeled "USRxxx" appear to be remnants of files for an old U.S. Robotics modem I once had installed and have since removed (a year or so ago)

I was haunted by that diappearing cursor for MONTHS and finally came to the PT boards for help. Per their advice I upgraded to the AOL Security Edition and had already upgraded to PT 12 and the main cursor problem is now solved. The only time the cursor now disappears is when those 'buddy chats' pop up and out. I don't know if there is a cure for that but it's mild in comparison to the cursor disppearing every 2 minutes or so or when I am typing a sentence.

Another member suggested leaving ONE of the buddy chat invites open, but minimized -- incoming chat invites won't steal your cursor focus then and one replaces the other so you won't have more than one invite open at once.

I no longer check these boards.

I apologize your post was skipped over. For future reference when you make a post, start your own thread instead of replying in someone else's, I am sure that is where the confusion was, this way your post will get answered faster :-).

I just looked over your System Information, I see you have an older revision of AOL 9, go to Keyword: upgrade and get the newest revision, it will tell you you already have the latest since you already have AOL 9, click on download anyway. Your final revision number should be 4184.2340, you will be able to see that in the AOL Help menu, then click about America Online, about the 4th line down in red will be your revision number, test that out for a while, if you still have a problem please post back.

Thanks for your response, Bear. Someone told me about minimizing the first 'buddy chat' that pops up and no other ones will show up once that is done. I was doing that but thought I would use the PT feature.

I found another way to bring back the cursor when I am using the PT feature. As long as the cursor is inside the text box when the buddy chat pops up, just hit the 'space bar' and it will activate the cursor again.

The moving cursor is happening with all aol memebers who are not using aol 9.0 se. I upgraded to 9.0se to get rid of the problem and now I am having a problem with PT locking up. I have to launch aol, then sign on and then launch PT. If not everything locks up. It will also lock up if I try to change screen names. To change screen names I have to close aol and PT. Just closing PT's doesn't work everything will still lock up. Both PT and aol have to be closed and then everything launched as I stated at the begining. I have removed pprograms from the start up list and nothing seemed to help. I have noticed a window popping up some times about BPS text editor. In the past whenever something went wrong that window would appear in the background.

Please follow these steps to post your BPS Sytem Information:

Explain the exact problem you are having, and also do the following to obtain your system info:

1. Click the Windows "Start" button.

2. Click your mouse on "All Programs" to get a list of all installed programs on your system.

3. Click your mouse on the "BPS SoftWare" program group.

4. Click on "BPS System Info" and wait for the window to load completely.

5. Once fully loaded, click the "Copy to Clipboard" button on the "BPS System Info" window (nothing will happen visibly -- please do not copy anything else to the Windows Clipboard until finished.)

6. Click the "New Thread" button in the appropriate board (NOT the "Reply" button in this thead), right click in the message body, and then select "Paste" from the menu. This will paste your complete system info in your post.

7. Click the "Post Message" button.

You can click on START > Choose "Run" > Type in "MSCONFiG" and hit Enter. To view the items that load with Windows, click over to the Startup tab.

If you'd like for us to tell you which items you can safetly disable from loading with Windows, start a new thread and post the BPS System Information Report.

Start a new thread here.
(This will create a post in the PowerTools > Other Features board.)

Please follow these directions to post the BPS System Information Report:
